Two weeks in April/May • Southern Canada • Marine Training Facility (TBC)

Phase 2 builds on the foundations from Phase 1 and moves you into formal marine training. Over approximately two weeks at a Transport Canada–recognized marine training facility in southern Canada, you’ll work toward the core certifications needed to work safely on the water and support expedition cruise operations.

This phase is more technical and intensive: full training days, classroom work, and hands-on exercises—designed to prepare Inuit participants for real responsibilities on small vessels and larger ships.
Where you’ll be
-
Location: A southern Canadian marine training facility (to be confirmed)
-
Timing: Two-week block in April/May (exact dates will be confirmed with successful participants)
-
Accommodation: Shared or individual accommodations arranged near the training center, with easy access to classrooms and practical training spaces.
Final details on travel and lodging will be shared once the facility and schedule are confirmed.

What Phase 2 does not cover
To keep expectations clear:
-
Phase 2 does not guarantee employment, but it provides key certifications that many employers in the marine and expedition sectors require.
-
It is not a repeat of Phase 1—the focus here is on technical skills, practical drills, and meeting Transport Canada standards, building on the leadership and soft skills you developed earlier.
Training allowance & funding
-
A training allowance is not included as part of this course.
-
Participants may be able to apply separately for support through Nunavut ALTS (Adult Learning and Training Supports). If you are interested in Phase 2, you are encouraged to contact Nunavut ALTS directly to see whether you qualify and how to apply. Any such funding is independent of the Nalunaiqsijiit program.
-
Information on how travel, meals, and accommodations are handled for this phase will be shared with selected participants once details are finalized.
By the end of Phase 2, successful participants will hold key marine safety and operations certifications, have a stronger understanding of how vessels and crews function, and be better positioned for shipboard placements and future roles in expedition cruising.
